Wrestler-Actor Dara Singh Died



India’s favourite Hanuman & wrestler-turned-actor Dara Singh, who was battling for his life in a Mumbai hospital since a week, passed away on Thursday. He was 83 & was survived by his wife and six children – three sons Pruduman Singh Randhawa, Vindu Dara Singh and Amrik Singh and three daughters.

The veteran actor and wrestler Dara Singh had suffered a cardiac arrest on 6th July and was admiited to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. He was undergoing dialysis and was put on ventilator. Doctors said that Dara Singh had suffered significant brain damage after the cardiac arrest & had very less chances of recovey. He was shifted to his residence on Wednesday evening as the he wished to be with his family during the last few days of his life.


“Dara Singh passed away peacefully at 7.30 a.m. this (Thursday) morning,” said Ram Narain, COO, Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, where the actor was being treated before he was shifted to his Juhu home late Wednesday.

“Angel now gone to shine like a star up above,” the actor’s son, Vindu Dara Singh, texted after his father’s death.

Dara Singh, who won the title of Rustam-e-Hind for his wrestling prowess, entered the film world in 1952 with Sangdil.

He appeared in various films like Watan Se Door, Rustom-E-Baghdad, SherDil, Sikandar E Azam, Raaka, Mera Naam Joker, Dharam Karam and Mard. He was last seen in a 2007 release Jab We Met.

He has also done TV serials and is best known for his character of Hanuman in Ramayan.
