A former successful model Viveka Babajee committed suicide in her house. She allegedly hanged herself from a ceiling fan in her suburban Mumbai apartment.
She was a part-time fashion co-coordinator committed suicide on Friday.
Bollywood actress and Indian model Viveka Babajee, 37, was found dead today, Thaindian News reports. She allegedly hanged herself from a ceiling fan in her suburban Mumbai apartment. According to The Calcutta Telegraph, the former Miss Mauritius titleholder and one-time face of Coca-Cola and Kama Sutra ads in India, suffered from severe depression.
Babajee, who featured in several advertisements and a couple of Bollywood films between 2000 and 2004, was suffering from depression, it is learnt. The police have recovered a suicide note from the house.
According to the police, Babajee had shifted base to Mauritius a couple of years ago. She was staying alone in Mumbai.
Neighbours got worried on Friday as Babajee did not answer the door bell despite repeated attempts, and the smell of gas was emanating from the apartment. “Finally, the neighbors alerted the police who rushed to the spot and broke open the door. She was found hanging from the ceiling fan,” said Amitabh Gupta, additional commissioner of police, west region.
Babajee’s death adds to an ever-growing list of recent model suicides, loaning credence to what Jezebel contributor and ex-model Jenna Sauers posited last month: "Suicidal models are fashion’s worst trend."
Indeed, in the past two years, a hauntingly high number of models have taken their own lives.
