The 53 years Old Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, who is facing the charges of illegal possession of a rifle in connection with the 1993 bomb blasts, Tuesday admitted conference underworld don Dawood Ibrahim once at a dinner that was hosted by Dawood in Dubai. The Sanjay Dutt was replying a query in the Supreme Court.
The actor had given a confessional statement to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with his arrest in 1993 bomb blasts.
Harish Salve, appearing for Sanjay Dutt in a case linked to illegal possession of a rifle, answered the questions raised by the court about his relationship with the underworld don wanted in India in connections with his key role in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts.
Salve said that the actor had met the don along with two film producers in Dubai where he had hosted a dinner.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) special court was told that the said dinner related to the period prior to the 1993 serial bomb blasts and that was the only occasion that the actor met the don, suspected to be in Pakistan.
On 19 April 1993, Sanjay was arrested under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities Act (TADA). He spent 16 months in jail until he was granted bail in October 1995 by the Supreme Court of India. He was later re-arrested in December 1995 and re-released in April 1997 once again on police bail terms.
In 2006 the case opened for sentencing for all accused (see below). The period between 2006-2007 saw Dutt spend 7 months in Arthur Road Prison and Pune prison on three occasions for arms offences, although in 2006 Dutt was finally acquitted of any TADA-related offenses but was charged under the illegal possession of arms act.
