Another golden feature is going to add in the hat of Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar & Hockey Wizard Major Dhyan Chand. These two sports persons are soon honored with India’s highest civilian award Bharat Ratna.
Indian government has made a necessary changes in eligibility criteria for a person getting this India’s highest civilian honour Bharat Ratna. Earlier, this award was restricted to the few selected areas like “Art, Literature, Science & Public Service”. It makes difficult for government to consider names of those, who contributed immensely to other fields, including sports.
Now, Bharat Ratna will be awarded in recognition of exceptional service/performance of the highest order. It may be in any field of human endeavour covering almost all the fields that had earlier remained out of the purview of this civilian award. This change is made through notification by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on recommendation of the Home & Sports Ministries.
Sachin Tendulkar, holds the world record for most runs (15183 in Tests and 18,111 in one-dayers) and most centuries (51 in Tests and 48 in one-dayers). He is currently in Australia and needs one more century to become the first batsman in history to score 100 international centuries.
Till Now, 41 people have been awarded with Bharat Ratna.
