Co-occurring with Makar Sankranti or Uttarayan celebrations. Gujarat’s International Kite Festival is held every year in Ahemdabad. This competition is known in World wide. On this day the skies and above the city come alive with kites in a hundred different colours, shapes and sizes, rapidly above the rooftops, successfully cutting another kite’s string and gliding way up above the earth. Makar Sakranti is also known as Uttarayan. On this day Sun enters in Northern Hemisphere. This is the most Colorful day of the year and awaited by all the religions of Kite Festival. The annual International Kite Festival takes place on 14th January which also marks Makar Sankranti or Uttarayan, the end of winter and start of summer according to the Hindu calendar.
International Kite Festival:- In this competition mainly battle with nearby kite flyers to cut their strings and bring down their kites. You can see varieties of kites with beautiful designs and long kites flying on the sky with cutting other kites to win the competition. One of the sidelights of the festival is the Patang Bazaar, which is open 24 hours a day in the heart of Ahmedabad during the Makar Sankranti week. A visit to this bazaar in the middle of the night proves beyond all doubt that the entire population of the city is influenced with patangs and they crowd the streets and buy their stocks while haggling and enjoying through the night.
