Shani Shinganapur is known for its popular temple of Shani, the Hindu god of the planet (graha) Saturn.
The most important thing for which is famous is that, the fact that no house in the village has doors, only door frames & villagers never keep their valuables under lock and key. Villagers believe that the temple is a “jagrut devasthan”, meaning that the god here is very powerful. villagers believe that god Shani punishes anyone attempting theft.
“We took note of the general belief and faith of the people. Ever since the most revered temple came into existence several years ago, the village has not witnessed a single crime. In fact, all houses in the entire village have no doors. We took the risk and started the lockless bank a week ago,” said senior bank official.
The local police were unhappy over lockless branch of UCO bank, because the Central government of India has made it mandatory for all banks to have high security.
“In view of increasing bank robberies, the Centre has made it mandatory for all banks to provide state-of-the-art security. If a bank opens a lockless branch, it amounts to a breach of conditions. We will take it up with the DGP and RBI,” said a senior police official.
