Salt is not an American film directed by Phillip Noyce, written by Kurt Wimmer and Brian Helgeland, and starring Angelina Jolie, Liev Schreiber, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Jolie plays Evelyn Salt, who is accused of being a KGB sleeper agent, and goes on the run to try to clear her name. While Tom Cruise was initially secured for the lead, the script was ultimately rewritten for Jolie.
The film had a panel at the San Diego Comic-Con on July 22 and was released in North America on July 23, 2010; it will be released on August 20, 2010, in the United Kingdom.

The film received generally mixed reviews. The review aggregate Rotten Tomatoes reports that 57% of critics have given the film a positive reviews based on 120 reviews, with a rating average of 6/10. The critical consensus is: Angelina Jolie gives it her all in the title role, and her seasoned performance is almost enough to save Salt from its predictable and ludicrous plot. Among Rotten Tomatoes’ “Top Critics”, which consists of popular and notable critics from the top newspapers, websites, television and radio programs, the film holds an overall approval rating of 54%, based on a sample of 26 reviews. Metacritic, which assigns a weighted average score out of 100 reviews from film critics, has a rating score of 64 based on 34 reviews.
If you like Angelina Jolie, this one’s quite an entertaining popcorn film. By popcorn, we mean the ‘regular’ salted popcorn. Don’t expect a caramel or cheese in it! If expecting logic? You can give this one a miss.
