Punjabi Munda Vipul Mehta wins Indian Idol 6

Punjabi Munda Vipul Mehta was the sixth Indian Idol. Vipul was declared as the Indian Idol season 6 winner at a grand finale on Saturday night. Bollywood diva Kareena Kapoor declared the winner at the glittering ceremony telecasted by Sony Television channel. The Punjabi boy Vipul become the winner of the sixth season of Indian Idol by beating the another two contestants Devendra Pal Singh and Amit Kumar at the finale.

Vipul Mehta, the winner of Indian Idol 6, won Rs. 50 lakh cash prize, a Nissan Micra car and a Suzuki Hayate bike besides winning a contract to record an album with Universal music and a chance to render tracks for an upcoming Bollywood film. He also won a trophy and three lakh rupees from Max Life insurance.

The reality show was judged by legendary singer Asha Bhosle, Sunidhi Chauhan and music director Anu Malik & was hosted by Mini Mathur and Hussain Kuwajerwala.

To add more glamour to the event Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar and actress Kareena Kapoor were present for the final to promote their upcoming film “Heroine”. Bollywood actors Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D’Cruz also graced the show as part of promotion for their film “Barfi”.

Vipul is a Mass Communication Graduate & has learnt Indian classical music from the age of eight. Vipul wishes to make a career in sound engineering. He had participated in the Second season of singing reality show “Voice of India” in 2008, but he was not qualified to the top three positions in that show.

Indian Idol is an adaptation of the Pop Idol format. It started airing in India with the first season in 2004–2005 and followed that with second (2005–2006), third (2007), fourth (2008–2009) & fifth in (2010). The sixth season of the show started on June 01st 2012. The winners of the earlier five sessions are Abhijeet Sawant, Sandeep Acharya, Prashant Tamang, Sourabhee Debbarma and Sreeram Chandra.
