Petra Kvitova defeated Maria Sharapova to win the 2011 Wimbledon title of womens singles. This was the first grand slam of her title. She defeated Maria Sharapova with 6-3, 6-4 to clinch the title.
Petra Kvitova is the 3rd only women to win the Wimbledon title. Petra Kvitova is only 21 year old and is from Czech.
Before Petra Martina Navratilova and Jana Novotna has also done this on Wimbledon.
“It’s hard to find some words, to see the great players in the royal box,”
said Kvitova,
“It’s very nice when they’re watching me all the time and supporting me, it’s great.”
She added.
The 2004 Wimbledon winner was very disappointed after the lose. Sharapova is 5th seeded who lose to 8th seeded Petra.
“It’s great to be back at this stage and holding the runner-up plate — but I wanted the big one today,but it’s something I want to be back for and holding again one day.”
