Surjeet Singh was released from a prison in Lahore city and sent to the Wagah border crossing to be repatriated. He was taken to the Wagah border crossing in a van to be handed over to Indian authorities. Surjeet Singh has served a living term in Pakistan next his seize on charges of undercover work in the 1980s.
India has welcomed Pakistan’s judgment to free Surjeet Singh and has complete a new plea for the free of death line captive Sarabjit Singh.
According to reports Surjeet Singh was jailed in Lahore for more than 30 years on charges of spying. Awais Sheikh, the advice for Singh, told the media yesterday that the Indian national was in prison by Pakistani police on accusing of intelligence work through the government of military ruler Zia-ul-Haq.
Previous this week Pakistan’s rule minister had convey to the management that Mr Singh had finished his life term and have to be free and sent back to India.
Surjeet Singh has spend more than 27 years in Pakistani jails. He was given the death sentence under the Pakistan Army Act in 1985 but the death sentence was commuted to life imprisonment in 1989.
Hours following information emerged on Tuesday that Pakistan was to release Indian death row captive Sarabjit Singh, the presidential spokesperson clarified that authorities had actually ordered the free of Surjeet Singh.
