Prime Minister Manmohan Singh appointed P. Chidambaram as Finance Minister & gave the crucial Home Incharge to Sushil Kumar Shinde. Veerappa Moily, Corporate Affairs Minister, has also taken charge of the power ministry, which Mr Shinde held. The reshuffle of portfolios had been necessitated by the exit of Pranab Mukherjee, who held the portfolio of Finance Ministry before getting elected as the President.
The 66 year old Chidambaram is an Indian politician with the Indian National Congress and the current Union Minister of Finance of the Republic of India. Previously he has served as Finance Minister of India from May 2004 to November 2008. However, after the resignation of Shivraj Patil,in the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks in November, 2008, Chidambaram was made the Home Affairs Minister. After a three and a half year stint as Home Minister , Chidambaram was reappointed Union Minister of Finance after Pranab Mukherjee became President of India.
Sushil Kumar Sindhe, a 71-year-old Dalit leader, from Maharashtra is a known loyalist of the Gandhi family. This his first tryst as the Home Minister. Sindhe is leader of Congress Party. He is the first Scheduled Caste person to have become the Chief Minister of Maharashtra. He served as Chief Minister from January 18, 2003.
72 year old Moodbidri Veerappa Moily was given the additional charge of Power Ministry on a day when three transmission grids — Northern, Eastern and North-eastern — collapsed leaving half of the 1.2 billion population of the country paralysed. Moily was elected as MP of the Chickballapur district by a wide margin in 2009. Moily currently serves as the All India Congress Committee General Secretary in charge of Andhra Pradesh. He is one of the senior members of the Congress Party and is a close adviser for the Congress Leader Sonia Gandhi. Moily is a former Chief Minister of the Indian state of Karnataka (19 Nov 1992 – 11 Dec 1994). He was elected to Karnataka state legislative assembly from Karkala constituency of Udupi district. He was first ethnic Tuluva Chief Minister of Karnataka state.
