China’s Wen Xia Yu was crowned Miss World 2012 while India’s Vanya Mishra could only make it to the top seven. The other six finalists are from India, Wales, Australia, Jamaica, South Sudan & Brazil. Miss China had to compete with 116 candidates to win the crown. Last year’s Miss World Ivian Sarcos of Venezuela handed over her crown to China’s Wen Xia Yu at a glittering ceremony held in Dongsheng Fitness Center Stadium.
Wales’ Sophie Moulds was adjudged the first runner-up, while Australia’s Jessica Kahawaty was the second runner-up. India’s Vanya Mishra made it to the top seven position but failed to progress further. Vanya’s dance to the track ‘Dil Cheez Kya Hai, Aap Meri Jaan Lejiye‘ from the 1981 film “Umrao Jaan” in the semi-finals gave her a place among the top seven finalists.
The 23 years old Wen Xia Yu was an aspiring music teacher & when she asked why she should be crowned as Miss World 2012, she replied;
“When I was young I felt very lucky because so many people helped me, and I hope in the future I can help more children to feel lucky.”
