Google’s 13 year ago employee Marissa Mayer is now Yahoo’s New President & CEO. Marissa, whose full name was Marissa Ann Mayer is an American business executive and the new President and CEO of Yahoo! Inc. Marissa is also a member of the company’s board of directors. Previously, Marissa was a long-time executive and key spokesperson for Google.
After the big news, Marissa announced the second big news that she’s pregnant.
“Another piece of good news today – @zackbogue and I are expecting a new baby boy!” she tweeted Monday with a link to a Fortune story where she revealed that her son is due Oct. 7.
Mayer said she doesn’t expect the birth of her first child to impact her job, which she begins Tuesday.
“I like to stay in the rhythm of things,” she said. “My maternity leave will be a few weeks long, and I’ll work throughout it.”
Over the past five years, the company has had four official CEOs —Terry Semel, Jerry Yang, Carol Bartz, and Scott Thompson.
About Marissa Mayer
After graduating from Wausau West High School in 1993, Mayer was selected by Wisconsin governor Tommy Thompson as one of the state’s two delegates to attend the National Youth Science Camp in West Virginia. Mayer is of Finnish descent.
Mayer Graduated from Stanford University with a B.S. with honors in symbolic systems and an M.S. in Computer Science. For both degrees, she specialized in artificial intelligence. In 2009, the Illinois Institute of Technology granted Mayer an honoris causa doctorate degree in recognition of her work in the field of search.
The 37 years old Mayer joined Google in 1999 as employee number 20 and was the first female hired. Mayer was responsible for the layout of some of Google’s most-used products, including the unadorned white search homepage, Google Search, Gmail, Google News and Google Images. In her final years with Google, she was a vice president of search products and user experience, and then of local and location services.
Prior to joining Google, Mayer worked at the UBS Research Lab (Ubilab) in Zurich, Switzerland, and at SRI International in Menlo Park, California.
Mayer was named to Fortune magazine’s annual list of America’s 50 Most Powerful Women in Business in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. She was ranked 50, 44, 42 and 38, respectively. In 2008, at age 33, she was the youngest woman ever listed.
Mayer was named one of Glamour Magazine‘s Women of the Year in 2009.
Mayer married Zach Bogue in 2009. On the same day Yahoo! announced her hiring, Mayer revealed that she and her husband were expecting a baby boy in October 2012.
