Many People Trapped in Massive Fire at Maharashtra Secretariat A massive fire has broken out on the 4th floor of the Maharashtra Secretariat or Mantralaya building in South Mumbai. Approx 200-300 people were inside the seven-storey building when the fire broke out. The fire was suspected to have been caused by a short-circuit.


The fire broke out at around 3 pm at Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Minister Babanrao Pachpute’s office, on the fourth floor which also houses the offices of urban development and energy. The Secretariat of Maharashtra government is located at Nariman Point in Mumbai.

At least 20 fire engines and 03 ambulances have been rushed to the spot to control the situation & helped the victims. Maharashtra Chief Secretary has ordered immediate evacuation of the entire building.


Pachpute said the fire has spread to the Chief Minister’s Office on the 6thfloor. There are also offices of Ministers and Secretaries on the same floor.

Ministers including chief minister Prithviraj Chavan are safe. However, 20 to 25 staffers were trapped in the building. Efforts are on to rescue them.

Till no casualties have been reported, more information awaited.
