One point separated Manchester United from making history with a 19th Premier League title, as the Red Devils visited Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park hours ago. And they finished the job with 1-1 draw against Blackburn Rovers.
Manchester United has won the 2010/11 Barclays Premier League title with a 1-1 draw against Blackburn Rovers!
Behind by 1 goal thanks to a nice built up goal by Bret Emerton (20’) of Blackburn, United were struggling to get the required goal needed for the title. But Paul Robinson fouled Chicharito and United were awarded a penalty on the 70th min mark which Wayne Rooney converted from the spot.
It was 1-1 and Blackburn stopped chasing the ball as they also needed minimum 1 point to fight their battle against relegation. From 83minute till the stoppage time got over, United kept the ball, passing in their own half without any pressure from Blackburn.
The game was dead by then and neither team wanted to strive for the extra goal which can win them the game. Sir Alex Ferguson even asked referee to call the game off as the game was dead and no team was trying to play football.
It was United’s 19th premier league title beating Liverpool’s 18 titles. Victory tasted sweeter because of overcoming Liverpool’s 18 titles. Sir Alex, the great Sir Alex, always wanted to overcome their rivals and he did that. He won his 12th Premier league title along with Ryan Giggs.
Last game for United is against Blackpool at their home which means Nemanja Vidic will be lifting the trophy on 21st May in front of the Old Trafford faithful. And then United travel to Wembley to face champions of Spain; Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League Final on the 28th May. We hope to see a double again this year by beating Barcelona on 28th May.
Hail United Hail Fergiee.
