A huge grid failure in Delhi and much of northern India left more than six states without electricity including Punjab, Haryana, UP, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir, on Monday.
The management has set up a 3-member board to look into the failure of northern Power Grid, Said power minister Sushilkumar Shinde.
Train services have also been affected by the power failure in North India. Power supply in the northern states, that faced blackout since around 2am on Sunday night, has been partially restored. The whole of Rajasthan, witnessed a complete black out for almost 4 hours between 1 am to 5 am.
“Northern grid collapsed due to heavy demand in the last few days. Deficient rainfall and on the other hand sowing season is making farmers depend more on ground water which increased demand in the last few days. It will take four to five hours to repair,” BSES officials said.
The Delhi Metro services, which was badly hit since Monday morning, has been partially restored. In Punjab and Haryana, Train services have also been affected by the power failure.
Hundreds of passengers have been stranded across stations in north India with the movement of trains disrupted.
