The film is directed by S.J. Surya. Komaram is taken from the surname of the Gond martyr Komaram Bheem, who fought against the erstwhile Asaf Jahi dynasty for the liberation of Hyderabad State.

Nikisha Patel is playing the lead female role as superident of police in the movie and Telugu actress Shriya Saran is doing a guest appearance in a song.

The other prominent stars in the movie include Manoj Bajpai, Charan Raj, Nazar, Jyothi Krishna, Bhrahmaji, Ali, and Girish Karnad. It is believed that the project is worth Rs. 35 crore. Geetha Arts has bagged the distribution rights of the film for a whopping Rs. 65 cr. from Singanamala Ramesh. An item song has been picturised on Shriya Saran and Pawan Kalyan recently.

Puli is the dream project of S.J. Suriya. Initially, it was made for actor Vijay in Tamil but due to some problems with him in the story, the movie was then delayed by the director. Then later after the confirmation from Pawan Kalyan it was then again reviewed and finalised for the shoot. The background score is composed by AR Rahman. The film was shot at various locations in Chennai and Hyderabad. Aspire Systems, dilsukh nagar hyderabad, Siruseri Chennai is shown as PULI HeadQuarters.

The music for the film is composed by A. R. Rahman. Pawan Kalyan will be playing a cop in this film; he has gone through a makeover to suit himself to the role of a powerful cop with a moustache and military cut.
