KKR vs Somerset : Somerset’s thrilling win over Kolkata Knight Riders by 5 wickets

Somerset beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 5 wickets in CTL20 League match. Somerset’s all rounder Roelof van der Merwe smashed a blistering 40-ball 73 to power Somerset to a five-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders at Rajiv Gandhi International stadium Hyderabad, It was Somerset’s second consecutive win over Kolkata. Somerset collected 63 runs in the first six overs, laying the platform for an easy victory.

After winning toss KKR Electing to bat first, Kolkata scored a very competitive 161 for three on a tough pitch, Wise Captain Jacques Kallis and a marauding Yusuf Pathan, who sent the Somerset bowlers on a leather-hunt during the last six overs,to take Knight Riders’ to a competitive 161/3.

Pathan seemed far from comfortable running between the wickets, smashed four sixes off a hapless Arul Suppiah in the 15th over of the innings to bring the Knight Riders back into the game. Pathan remained unbeaten on 39 off 21 balls with four sixes to his credit but it was Kallis who provided the framework upon which Pathan built on.

Somerset had lost the opener Chris Jones (6) to first ball of Iqbal Abdulla’s spell but they still raced to 50 inside fifth over with Merwe scoring the bulk of the runs.

As Merwe came out firing on all cylinders, Somerset were comfortably placed at 119 for one in 13 overs but they made it trifle difficult for themselves by losing three quick wickets before sealing the win.
