05 persons were dead and many other severe injured in a train collision between the New Delhi-bound Bramhaputra Mail and a goods train at Karonpuroto, about 25 km from Sahibganj on today morning, Wednesday 11th January 2012.
The mishap occurred at today 5.50 am when the train was on its way to New Delhi from Dibrugarh. The Brahmaputra Mail was passing through Karonpuroto when a stationary goods train parked on the main line started rolling back. So while it was rolling back, it hit the Brahmaputra Mail & as a result of this side collision, five persons were dead.
“A bogie of 14055 Brahmaputra Mail derailed and dashed against a stationary goods train, killing four persons,” Superintendent of Police (Rail) Praveen Srivastav told PTI over phone.
Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each for those who killed in this accident. He also announced a sum of Rs 50,000 for those seriously injured & the passengers who have received simple injuries, will get a compensation of Rs 10,000.
Relief and rescue team has already left for the spot. Injured were rushed to nearby hospitals. Authorities are trying to get in touch with the families’ of the victims.
