IRCTC Online ticket reservation helps to book tickets online, by just creating an account at www.irctc.co.in. There are options for reservation of tickets, cancellations, and tatkal reservation of tickets.
IRCTC provides two options − I−tickets and E−tickets.
In I-ticket, the ticket will be delivered to your home by courier in 2-3 days. This ticket needs to be booked at least two days in advance to date of journey, to ensure courier delivery of the ticket at your place. But this service is available only in select cities across India.
If you go for the E-ticket, you can save it on your computer and take a print out of the ticket and carry it along with a photo ID proof while travelling on the train.
IRCTC has recently launched a new medium for booking tickets called IRCTC mobile. IRCTC Mobile enables you to book your tickets, as well as, perform various other services through your mobile phone. In order to avail of this service, you must use a java enabled phone or a smart phone with a GPRS connection. Tickets ordered using this medium will be delivered to your postal address within three days.
