The Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL) was established by Sri Lanka Cricket in 2011. The season will run from 10 August to 31 August 2012. The SLPL final will be held on August 31. The tournament will feature seven provincial teams.

All the Seven Sri Lankan Premier League (SLPL) Teams were bought over by Indian multinationals.
The Number One Sports Consulting Pvt Ltd paid $ 4.98 million for the Kandurata Kites franchise while Wadhawan Group paid$ 5.02 million for the Wayamba Wolves.
Ruhuna Rhinos were bought by Pearl Overseas Limited for $ 4.6 million. The similar total was paid for the Uva Unicorns franchise by Success Sports Pvt Ltd.
Basnahira Bears franchise featuring Tillakaratne Dilshan, which was snapped up by Indian Cricket Dundee Limited for $ 4.33 million. The Uthura Oryxes, were bought by Rudra Sports Pvt Ltd for $ 3.4 million, while Nagenahira are now the property of Varun Beverages Lanka Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of the Ravi Kant Jaipuria- owned RJ Corp. The company is the agent for Pepsi in Sri Lanka, and paid $ 3.22 million for the team.
