Indian Lady Officer Gets Permanent Commission In Army



The supreme court on Friday 2 September directed the Army to reinstate 11 Short Services Commission women officers who had been released after completion of 14 years in service. The Apex court asked  the army to take the officers back from September 12 continuing their service. Delhi court is ruling that women had a right to permanent commission. High court had granted the Army two months to implement its judgement . Court had later issued its notice for contempt of court after it failed to comply with the order within the requisite time limit. The operation of the notice was stayed by Apex court.

Both Indian Air Force and Navy had agreed to grant women permanent commission but the Indian Army had challenged to the Supreme court on the ground it might be create operational difficulties. The officers who are going to be benefited by the Apex court orders are:-

The center had moved to the Apex court at July 6  last year challenging the High Court which is directed it to grant permanent commission to women officer who were taken the Short Service Commission. The High Court haas been said,

                                      ” Women Officiers deserved better  from the government

which had shown relutance in treating them on per with their male counterpart. Women officer had accused the Army of suffering from gender is not granting the permanent commission to the women officer who worked shoulder to shoulder with other similarly placed gentleman officer. It is rejected the plea of the  Government that Permanent Commission could allowed only for future recruitment and the benefit could not be given to the serving and retired women officers who had approached to the court.
