Suresh Raina`s flamboyant century against South Africa which helped India continued there winning habit in the second league match of Group C, where they beat South Africa by 14 runs and tops there group by 4 points.


It was Super Sunday at Saint Lucia, West Indies same ground where India beat Afghanistan a day before, the day all goes to Suresh Raina. He is declared Man of the Match. He continued where he left in the IPL.


After winning toss Graeme Smith, captain South Africa elected to field first as a chance of morning due which give help to there bowlers as bowl get swing of pitch which is slow and its breeze that help bowlers to get swing from both ends. India started cautiously this time as Gautam Gambhir absence in this match give Dinesh Karthik to start up innings with Murali Vijay (0) who got out very first delivery he faced from Kleinveldt caught by Boucher behind the stumps. Karthik (16) progresses the innings with Suresh Raina who was lucky thrice as misses two run outs and one time caught on a No-ball, but after that he didn’t give any chance to South African bowlers and hit them brutally around the park. He played flamboyant inning of 101 runs in 60 balls hitted 9 fours and 5 long distant sixes. He added a good 88 runs partnership with Yuvraj Singh (37 runs) who was looking in a good touch after a long time. Yuvraj is middling the ball beautifully this time. India scores 75 runs in last 5 overs of their innings. Dhoni added unbeaten 16 runs which help India to set a huge total of 187 runs for victory for South Africa. India scored 186-5 in 20 over’s.


In reply South Africa had a good start but the run-rate was the only thing which rises as inning progresses. South Africa loose only 1 wicket of Bosman, but it was the asking rate which made the difference in the end as India win by 14 runs in the final over. Kallis (73 of 54 balls) and Smith (36 of 28 balls) held a partnership for South Africa for 97 runs in 65 balls before Smith got run-out by a good full through from Praveen Kumar at third man. Smith was short of crease, Chawla get rid of Kallis who caught out for 73 by Jadeja at Long-on, Morkel (12 of 7 balls) and A B De Villiers (31 of 15 balls) innings help in the mammoth chase, but as South Africa needed biggies in the last few over’s, they remain short with 14 runs. India qualifies for Super Eight. South Africa will take Afghanistan in last match of the Group at Barbados on 05 May 2010.
