India beat Cameroon to lift the Nehru Cup 2012 football tournament

India beat Cameroon 5-4 (2-2) on penalties shoot-out to lift the Nehru Cup 2012 football tournament at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Sunday. This is India’s third consecutive Nehru Cup title.

India broke the deadlock in the 19th minute.In an end-to-end match which went into penalties, a valiant India held their more fancied opponents 2-2 in normal time.

Sunil Chhetri, Robin Singh, Denzil Franco, Mehtab Hossain and Clifford Miranda all scored from the spot while Thierry Makon struck the right-post to give India an unprecedented win.

India started the match the brighter of the two, continuously making inroads into the Cameroon third.

Chhetri had the first shot of the match but his drive from well outside the box was easily saved.

India shifted to a 4-4-2 formation in the 64th minute bringing Robin Singh for winger Sanju Pradhan. His height added another dimension to India’s attacks.

Both teams dug deep in the final 15 minutes but failed to find an opening as the match went into penalties.

The 2012 Nehru Cup was the 15th edition of the Nehru Cup. It was held from August 22 to September 2. The tournament was hosted in New Delhi, India. A total of 5 teams participated in the tournament through being invited by the All India Football Federation.
