Dharam Dev Anand  popularly known as Dev Anand celebrates his 88th birthday today on 26th of September 2011. Dev Anand is an Indian Hindi Cinema actor, director and film producer.

The Evergreen Dev Anand born on 26 September, 1923 in Shakargarh Tehsil of Gurudaspur district (now in Narowal District, Pakistan) in undivided Punjab, British India.

Dev Anand began his career in the military censor office at Churchgate, Mumbai, for a salary of Rs.200. He started his career as as an actor by Prabhat Talkies to star in their film Hum Ek Hain (1946). 

Dev Anand became romantically involved with Suraiya. The two of them were paired in six films together – Vidya (1948), Jeet (1949), Shair (1949), Afsar (1950), Nili (1950), Do Sitare (1951) and Sanam (1951), which were all successful at the box office.

Some of his successful films include Taxi-Driver, CID, Tere Ghar Ke Saamne, Kalapani, Kalabazar, Jewel Thief, Jaal, Guide, Teen Deviyan, Hare Rama Hare Krishna, Paying Guest, Prem Pujari, Kala Bazaar, Heera Panna, Warrant & Darling Darling & many more.

Dev Anand was awarded with many Awards & Honours. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Bhushan in 2001 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2002 for his contributions towards Indian cinema.
