Good news for Delhi people, especially the young youth who like to chit-chat with their friends & wants to share each & every little things. Recently their is restriction in sending more than 200 SMSes per day per SIM which restricts the young youth to chat message chat with their friends but now you can send as many SMSes you want to!!!
Yes guys, you heard it right. On Friday, the High Court of Delhi set aside an order of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) capping SMSes at 200 per day per person for personal communications. The court, however, upheld the restriction on unsolicited text messages.
Last year, TRAI announced a ceiling of 100 SMSes per day per SIM - a move aimed at preventing telemarketers from bombarding users’ mobiles with unwanted calls and SMS. Later, the telecom regulatory body increased the cap from 100 to 200 SMSes after severe criticism.
The limitation on sending text messages had most disappointed the youth, which preferred SMSing for most of their communications. However, the SMS restriction had a much larger impact. The Kerala Association for the Deaf had criticised the TRAI, saying the text messages had been main mode of communications for the people with hearing disabilities. The court also said the ceiling on the text messages issued by TRAI was against the fundamental right to freedom of speech and expression.
Imposing a restriction on number of SMSes never seemed to be a good idea as telemarketers have started using multiple SIMs for sending pesky texts. The SMS guidelines definitely needed much more clarity and simplicity for the common man – which is most likely to be the case after the HC verdict.
The TRAI has of late taken various initiatives to protect consumers’ interests such as improving 3G voice call quality and asking telecom companies to provide ‘per second’ plan to users.
So guys, enjoy your chit-chat with your friends & I hope soon this scheme will be launched in other states too!!!
