THE 139th British Open has begun and it will give golf lovers a treat at the famous Old Course from today onwards. The stakes this year will be the precious Claret Jug. The tournament started off on a good note with John Daly, who won the championship fifteen years back, started with seven of the first eleven holes on Thursday to climb ahead on the leaders board.
The three day championship that will start from July 15 to July 18 will see the participation of many golfing legends like Phil Mickelson, world number three Lee Westwood, Graeme McDowell, who won the US Open last month. The other sought after players are 21 year old Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, defending champion Stewart Cink, Luke Donald, Paul Casey, Ian Poulter and Tom Watson.
The British Open 2010 will be telecast live on ESPN in the United States. The telecast schedule of British Open 2010 in U.S. is as follows:

Tied with Ernie Els and Colin Montgomerie in the 1994 US Open at Oakmont. After 18 holes Montgomerie was eliminated and Els claimed the title over Roberts at the second extra hole. Played in the 1995 US Ryder Cup team and has become a multiple winner on the Champions Tour. Won the 2009 Senior Open.
