Rajesh Khanna, a popular actor of the 1970s has died yesterday July 18th after prolonged illness. Bollywood stars & his fans arrived in large numbers to bid goodbye to First Superstar” of Hindi cinema, who passed yesterday. He was 69 & was suffering from cancer.
The funeral procession began from his bungalow on Carter Road at around 10 AM and his body was being taken to the Pawan Hans crematorium. Fans walked the distance to the crematorium carrying huge posters of Khanna, reminiscent of a time when legions of his female followers would line up for hours to catch a glance of him.
Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachch, Shahrukh Khan, Poonam Dhillon, Ranbhir Kapoor, Shabana Aazmi were among the celebrities who were spotted paying their last respects to the actor.
Fans of Rajesh Khanna gathered in large numbers outside his residence in Mumbai to get the glance of the actor.
Rajesh Khanna appeared in 163 feature films of which 128 as the lead protagonist including 106 as the solo lead hero films and 22 two hero projects and did 17 short films. He won three Filmfare Best Actor Awards and was nominated for the same fourteen times. He received the maximum BFJA Awards for Best Actor (Hindi) – four times and nominated 25 times. He was awarded the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005. Khanna is referred to as the “First Superstar” of Hindi cinema. He made his debut in 1966 with Aakhri Khat and rose to prominence with his performances in films like Raaz, Baharon Ke Sapne, Ittefaq and Aradhana. By 2011, he held record for the Hindi actor with most number of author backed lead hero films – 106 solo hero films and having done only 22 two hero films.
