Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and V.V.S. Laxman were honoured at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)annual awards function 2011-12 on Wednesday. The former Indian Captain Mohammad Azharuddin whose life-ban was overturned by Andhra Pradesh high court was also present at the event
The legendary Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar was honored with the Col CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award which included a cheque of Rs 25 lakhs.
After receiving the award, trophy and cheque Sunil Gavaskar said,
“I dedicate this award to the Indian fans. There is no bigger award than this in Indian cricket. I am really honored to join the list of winners. I am also humbled that the BCCI has chosen me worthy of this award. I also thank all the associations, the BCCI President N. Srinivasan and his other colleagues, the media for highlighting my scores and bringing it to the attention of the selectors and the public. I want to tell this to the Indian cricket fans. Have faith in this team. This Indian cricket team is good and they will bring smile to your face, just like this award has brought smile to my face.”
BCCI also honored Sachin Tendulkar (for scoring Hundred International 100s) and VVS Laxman who recently retired from international cricket. Tendulkar was honoured with a gold-plated bat for scoring a century of centuries in international cricket.
BCCI awarded the Polly Umrigar Award to Virat Kohli for being the ‘Best Indian Cricketer’ of the 2011-12 season. The award included a trophy & a cheque of Rs. 5 lakh.
