Police said it seemed to be a case of suicide. They believe that Bhasin jumped in front of a speeding train. His body was found in 8 to 10 pieces within a kilometre of the railway tracks. But the family members of Paras have alleged that he was murdered by his wife’s (SHILIY) family,  who were opposed to their relationship. They also said that the family was well-connected.  They alleged that Bhasin’s father-in-law had been threatening him for the past few days.

Bhasin’s father Sanjeev who was a property dealer in Tagore Garden said,

“Paras and his girlfriend (SHILIY) secretly got married at an Arya Samaj Temple. They had been together for the past five years. The girl’s father owns three Reebok stores in Delhi. He was opposed to their relationship as our family is financially weaker than them.”

Paras  brother-in-law Karan Verma said,

“On Saturday at around 1 pm, Paras got an SMS from the girl’s phone saying she was apologizing on behalf of her parents who had insulted him. “Please forget me”, the SMS ended. Paras went out of his home in Meenakshi Garden at around 3:30 pm. At 4.26pm, Bhasin’s mother got a call telling us that his body was lying in pieces on a railway track in Pandav Nagar. The caller, who refused to identify himself, called himself our well-wisher and made at least 15 calls from two different numbers.”

The police had earlier refused to register a case as they were of the opinion that Bhasin had committed suicide by jumping in front of a train. Paras’ family alleges that it was a case of ‘honour killing’ by the girl’s family, which was rich. They also said, ”Why will Paras travel from Meenakshi Garden to Pandav Nagar to commit suicide?”

Later, Paras family, friends and neighbours carried out a candle march from his west Delhi’s Meenakshi Garden residence to Subhash Nagar Singh Sabha Gurdwara to protest the slow pace of investigation by police. The family had continued to protest against the police for refusing to lodge an FIR. Finally on Monday, the Anand Vihar railway police station registered a case of murder. The police also trying to identify the person who made more than 15 calls to Bhasin’s mother to inform her that Bhasin’s body was lying on the railway track.
