Attukal Pongala is festival dedicated to Atukal Devi. Attukal Pongala celebrated at Attukal Devi or Attukal Bhagavathi Temple, Thiruvananthapuram or Trivandrum, Kerala. Atukal Pongala is observed during Malayalam month of Kumbham (February – March).
Today, on 19th February 2011, around 2 million women will participate in the annual Attukal Devi Temple pongala festival. The temple festival has begun on 11th February and continues till 20th February 2011. It is the biggest religious congregation in South India.
The pongala festival will start with traditional rituals from 10.00 AM in the morning.
On This Attukal Pongala festival day, women offer Pongala or the boiled rice to the presiding deity, Goddess Parvati or Attukalamma, in the Attukal Devi Temple. Women cook Pongala in the temple premises and offer to the Goddess with utmost fervor.
