The registration for the annual “Amarnath Yatra” (pilgrimage) starts from today, i.e May 10, 2011 (Tuesday). This year the Yatra will be starts from June 29th to Aug 13th.
The weather has improved in the Kashmir Valley over the past week & its the perfect time for the Annual Amarnath Yatra. The registration for the Yatra starts from today (Tuesday).
The registration is open online as well as across the 149 branches of various banks across the country. Registration of the pilgrims will commence from counters established in 121 designated branches of the Jammu and Kashmir bank, 24 branches of the Yes Bank and 4 district cooperative banks.
This year Amarnath Yatra is from 29 June 2011 to 13 August 2011. Last year nearly 5 lakh devotees had darshan.
R.K. Goyal, chief executive officer of the shrine board said, “Registration will be done through a yatra permit which will be issued on the submission of the form, along with the payment of handling charges of Rs 15 per pilgrim. He also said every registered pilgrim has been provided, an accidental insurance cover of Rs one lakh at the cost of the shrine board.”
One has to trek a height of about 14,500 ft to have darshan of naturally formed Ice Lord Shiva Linga.
There are 2 ways to reach the temple. One through Chandanvari in South Kashmir. Other through Paldal Road which is 110 km from North Srinagar.
