A total of 50 members from 15 states took oath or affirmation in the Rajya Sabha on the first day of the second part of Budget Session. Ten of them have been re-elected. They include Arun Jaitley, Mayawati, Vilasrao Desmukh, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Renuka Chaudhary, Najma Heptullah, Rajiv Shukla, Chiranjeevi, Jaya Bachchan & Dilip Tirkey. The oath-taking reflected the cosmopolitan nature of the country — members took oath in Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Gujarati, Telugu, Sanskrit, Kannada, Marathi, Oriya & English. The Chairman, Mohammed Hamid Ansari administered the oath or affirmation.
Miss Mayawati : Bahujan Samaj Party & former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati took oath in Hindi. After taking oath, she walked up to the Prime Minister, who stood up to acknowledge her greetings.
Vilasrao Deshmukh : Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh took oath in Marathi.
Ravi Shankar Prasad : Bharatiya Janata Party General Secretary Ravi Shankar Prasad was among the six members from Bihar to take oath.
Renuka Chaudhary : Former Union minister Renuka Chaudhary took oath in Hindi.
Najma Heptullah : Najma Heptullah, who was elected on Bharatiya Janata Party ticket from Madhya Pradesh, took oath in Urdu.
Rajeev Shukla : Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs & Congress leader Rajeev Shukla, who is elected from Maharashtra took his oath in Hindi.
Chiranjeevi : Telugu superstar-turned-politician Chiranjeevi was also sworn in as a Rajya Sabha MP from Andhra Pradesh took oath today.
Jaya Bachchan : Bollywood Actress Jaya Bachchan who returned to the Samajwadi Party fold after a brief split following the expulsion of Amar Singh from the party, also took oath in Rajya Sabha today in English.
Dilip Tirkey : The former hockey captain and three-time Olympian Dilip Tirkey was elected as a Biju Janta Dal MP from Odisha.
